In Defense of the Christian Faith

I promised recently that I would be posting some book reviews... well here's one. It's an excellent series written by Anthony Bollback , a missionary to China. Enjoy! ----------------- Red Runs the River and its sequel Exiles of Hope tells the fictional story of two Chinese Christians who face religious persecution at the hands of Mao Tze-tung’s Communist Party. Though a novel, the book describes actual people, places, and events. The author, Anthony Bollback, has worked in China for many years, and his purpose in writing this story is to give the reader a glimpse into life as Christians in China experience it today through the eyes of the book’s two main characters. This is the story of Meiling and Anching who fall in love and are then separated by years of Communist control; it is a love story, not only between themselves, but also between each one and the God whom they love and serve – a God for whom they risk their lives daily despite the persecution of Communism. Time has flown by, and with it have gone my blog posts... Sorry folks! But I've been up to my ears in reading. Actually, it's not required reading, but I've recently developed a new hobby/status as Bookworm! ;) Here are some books I recently ordered (reviews coming soon): 1) The Battle for the Beginning -- An excellent book by John MacArthur which chronicles the seven days of creation mentioned in Genesis. MacArthur goes into great detail about each day and its significance, showing how evolution is not plausible. I talked about it once before , but I plan to do a more in-depth review of it sometime in the future. 2) How To Keep Your Faith in an Upside Down World -- In this book, Sarah Bowling, daughter of evangelist Marylin Hickey, talks about how to revolutionize your faith. I picked it up primarily because it was on sale, and I've seen Sarah speaking on television and she is very informative and easy to understand. I have not read this one yet, but I'll...

Last week, I shared Gladys Aylward's story . This week, I'd like to focus on her quote: "...But God looked down and saw Gladys Aylward and said, 'She's willing." This reminded me... there was once a preacher who was attending a Kathryn Kuhlman meeting. As he sat there observing the meeting, he asked the Lord, "God, why do you use her ?" In response, God spoke to him and said, "Tell that couple that they're living in adultery." The man argued with God; he just couldn't do it. As he was debating it in his mind, Kathryn Kuhlman said, "There's someone living in adultery..." God then spoke to the preacher and said, "That's why I use her." She was willing and she obeyed. I am going to start something new on this blog, a new meme... It's called Inspiring Story. Each week, I'll feature an inspiring story. I know this is "off the beaten path" of apologetics, but one of my missions is to encourage and inspire my readers, so I figure I'll give it a go. Each week, you'll find one of my favorite stories featured. Many of these stories are about trusting in God, which, as many of you know, is a subject dear to my heart. Some are humorous, but most are sobering and challenging, while at the same time, encouraging. Sometimes we forget all the wonderful things that God has done for us or taught us, so I hope that by posting these inspiring stories, we can all be encouraged and be reminded of God's hand in our lives.
