Inspiring Story: I Am There in the Midst of Them

The wait is over, folks! ;) I'm FINALLY getting around to posting this weeks Inspiring Story... thanks for your patience.
Today, I'd like to focus on Angus Buchan, a Scottish-African who resides in South Africa. A man of extraordinary character and faith, his is a very interesting story, and I could go on and on about how much I admire him. Therefore, I will say this much: he is best known for his book and movie "Faith Like Potatoes" (which was the best video I have ever seen). His website tells a brief version of the story, for those interested. (If you click on the movie title above, you can also see a trailer.) Some of my readers have already seen the movie (and if you haven't, I highly recommend it), so today, I'm going to focus on a recent newsarticle pertaining to Angus Buchan... According to the local news, News24, on April 6, 2009:
The popular South African evangelist, Angus Buchan, collapsed on Saturday, shortly after his morning service at his Mighty Men conference.

More than 200, 000 men are attending the event in KwaZulu-Natal. Buchan was taken to the Pietermaritzburg Medi-Clinic by helicopter for medical tests after he had collapsed.

It was unclear what had caused the collapse, although sources said Buchan, 62, had delivered a very energetic service during the morning, wearing warm clothes and drinking little water.

Heat exhaustion is believed to be a possible cause.

Those attending the conference were informed on Saturday that Buchan would probably return to the farm on Sunday and would be back on stage during the day. Spokesperson Riaan

Janse van Vuuren said, "There is no stopping him. He just overdid it this morning."

Actually, it is believed that Angus suffered from a heart attack. Interestingly, though, the news failed to mention two things, which I found on a messageboard that I infrequently participate on:

First, Angus' Mighty Men conference is hosted on his own property and also the property of the surrounding farms; hence, the farmers cannot plant at that specific time of year. But, as a friend of Angus' said (and I'm paraphrasing), "If even 10% of these men are saved, it's all worth it!" Can you imagine that?! The farmers stop all planting so that those who attend can pitch their tents and hear the Gospel! That is commitment!

Second, when Angus was flown to the hospital, it was announced over the loud speaker and all 200,000 men at the conference prayed for him, many of them gathering around the Buchan home as they prayed. Upon his return that same afternoon, Angus continued to preach, and the doctors could find nothing wrong with him, so they gave him a clean bill of health!

Those men praying for Angus like that reminded me of these Scriptures:

Matthew 18:19 -- "Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven." And Matthew 18:20 -- "For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them."

I also found a very interesting testimony from a peramedic who was on the scene, witnessing Angus' collapse and then seeing him preach against all odds. It tells the story in great detail, and it is utterly amazing. I strongly recommend you read it.

    Oh my word! I visited his website just yesterday! How the media leaves important details out, and it is SUPPOSED to be their job to be thorough, covering all sides of the story. (grrrrr...) Wow, thanks for posting!

April Fools

Today is April Fool's Day. While I am not too enthralled with the idea of playing tricks on people, I wanted to share a little story with you all (no offense meant to those to whom it refers): An atheist complained to a Christian friend, "You Christians have your sacred holidays, such as Christmas and Easter. Jews celebrate their national holidays, such as Passover and Yom Kippur. But we atheists have no recognized national holidays. It's unfair discrimination." His friend replied, "Why don't you celebrate April first?" On a more serious note, I would like to remind you all that we are called to be "fools for Christ" (1 Corinthians 4:10). This does not mean that we are to act stupid in the name of Christ; rather, it means that we are to go about God's business -- even if it makes us look like fools in the process.
