Thoughts to Ponder...

I was looking for a particular quote today and I found these (all credit goes to Brian)... I think they are not only interesting, but they also provide us with some food for thought... "Understanding is the reward of faith. Therefore seek not to understand that you may believe, but believe that you may understand." - St. Augustine of Hippo I thought of that one in light of the Bible: Proverbs 4:4-7 states, "He also taught me, and said to me: 'Let your heart retain my words; Keep my commands, and live. Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you. Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.'" Also, Proverbs 2:4-11 says, "If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; He guards the paths of justice, And preserves the way of His saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice, Equity and every good path. When wisdom enters your heart, And knowledge is pleasant to your soul, Discretion will preserve you; Understanding will keep you..." And I think this could also apply to those who are unsure if they want to become a Christian. Don't try to understand everything before you will believe in Jesus. He'll give you the understanding if you will believe in Him; as it says in the Scriptures, He will make His words known to you (Proverbs 1:23). He will show you the way. This one really is the mission statement of my blog... I don't seek to win any arguments, but I want people to come to Christ, to be born again: "The purpose of apologetics is not just to win an argument or a discussion, but that people with whom we are in contact may become Christians and then live under the Lordship of Christ in the whole spectrum of life." - Francis Schaeffer This last one expresses what I've been thinking about a lot recently: do our lives reflect Christ's? When People see us, do they see Jesus in us? As the saying goes, "You may be the only Bible, the only Jesus, that the world ever sees." "Out of 100 men, one will read the Bible, the other 99 will read the Christian." - D. L. Moody
