Story Challenge Teaser...

Last week, I joined my good friend, the Brickster, in a challenge to write a short story. (My apologizes that it's taken this long for an update, Brickster!) Those of you who don't know me that well might be thinking, "You? Write a story?" Well, let me tell you a little secret: I love to write short stories. When I was younger, my siblings and I were sitting around the house out of sheer boredom when one said, "Hey, let's write a story!" Everyone thought that this was such a good idea, and we proceeded to busily scribble on our papers whatever our imaginations so desired! Soon, everyone else was bored again, but not me! I kept on writing until I had finished the story. Over the next few years, I wrote sequals to that original story. Now, mind you, the stories that I wrote are nothing professional, but I learned that day that my talent lay in writing stories. All of that said to say that I have come out with my first teaser for the Brickster's challenge! I hope you all find it interesting...

"Natalie, a young nurse, meets a James, a sick, old man who believes that his sickness is the Lord's will. The old man has some dark secrets, which have shaped his outlook on life. He blames God not only for his sickness, but also for this mysterious secret. Natalie knows that it is God's desire to heal James and to give him everything good, but it will take the love of Christ to melt this man's heart. Can Natalie unravel the man's secrets? Can she convince him of God's great plan for his life?"

The theme of the story is that the same God that healed 2,000 years ago still heals today. Some other Scriptural "issues" will be tackled in the story as well (but you'll have to wait until you read the story to find out what those are ;) ). It's going to be more of a dialogue story, but I'm going to add some "zest" to make it more interesting. Much of the topics that I will cover are based on actual things that I have heard people say. But, I have yet to write the main story; right now, I have a number of notes as main points (which I've jotted down as they came to me), and I'm planning to work the story around those points. Anyway, it should be interesting...

Stay tuned for updates on this story!

  3. This sounds like a marvelous story. We are always looking for good books for book reports, and it is a lament of mine that there are very, very few quality Christian (fiction) books out there. Maybe you guys can make a worthy contribution to the publishing world. It sure needs it! :D

P.S. I always wrote stories as a kid, too. My teacher sometimes read them aloud to the class. I was so embarrassed but so happy!
