Food For Thought: Joseph Smith the Prophet?

Ever heard the saying, "Many roads lead to God"? With so many religions claiming to be the way, how can we know that Christianity is the right one? Apart from the Bible (which I do believe is the starting point Jesus said, "I am the WAY..."), it helps to examine other religions. For example, by comparing them to Christianity and cross examining them in other ways based on evidence, we can determine who is right and who is wrong. Today, I'd like to present one piece of food for thought on Mormonism. Keep in mind that this is just ONE of many things I could point out (and probably will as time goes on)... Please also peruse the links, since they document the claims being presented.

Did You Know...

As Mormonism's founder, Joseph Smith is touted as a Prophet through whom God revealed His "laws, ordinances, and gospel." Joseph Smith made many prophecies in the Name of God, so was He really speaking what God was leading Him to speak? Since Mormons claim to stand on equal footing with Christianity, we would expect Joseph Smith's prophecies to line up with the Biblical standard: “…when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously...” (see Deuteronomy 18:20-22). So is Joseph Smith a true prophet? Judge for yourself: It is estimated that Smith spoke fifty to sixty prophecies which did not come to pass! In fact, in a letter to his family explaining why he left the LDS church, former Mormon Dick Baer made a list of 53 such prophecies made by Smith! What does this say about Joseph Smith?

    I would like to point out the answer to the idea that all roads lead to the same place - they do - to the Judgment Seat of Christ. It's where you go from there that makes all the difference.

    I'm surprised how popular Mormonism has become in the past 20, 30 years. Not too many people seem willing to take it on, hold it up to the light. You go, girl!

I've read several books which expose Mormonism, and it seems to me that if someone merely glances at it, they will walk away thinking that it IS Christianity; but once you examine the facts, it all crumbles. In fact, I believe this is why the Bible constantly tells us to take heed to the sound doctrine of the Word of God. More on Mormonism coming soon!

April Fools

Today is April Fool's Day. While I am not too enthralled with the idea of playing tricks on people, I wanted to share a little story with you all (no offense meant to those to whom it refers): An atheist complained to a Christian friend, "You Christians have your sacred holidays, such as Christmas and Easter. Jews celebrate their national holidays, such as Passover and Yom Kippur. But we atheists have no recognized national holidays. It's unfair discrimination." His friend replied, "Why don't you celebrate April first?" On a more serious note, I would like to remind you all that we are called to be "fools for Christ" (1 Corinthians 4:10). This does not mean that we are to act stupid in the name of Christ; rather, it means that we are to go about God's business -- even if it makes us look like fools in the process.
