The Christian View

In recent weeks, it seems that attacks upon some of Christianity's core beliefs have been escalating in several major areas, so I wanted to share my thoughts on these in today's post -- from a purely Christian perspective.

1) A few months before Christmas last year, the American Atheists erected a billboard claiming that true message of Christmas was all just a myth. Now, an ad stating, "You Can Live Moral, Meaningful Lives without God" has been posted at Farragut West Metro station in Washington, D.C. Craig Hazen made some good points for a moral lawgiver in the article. For my thoughts on this, see a guest post that apologetics speaker and trainer Mikel Del Rosario wrote for the DCF blog. 2) It seems that the issue of homosexuality has taken a turn for the worst recently, with many Christians "coming out of the closet" and claiming to be both Christian and homosexual . I will address this issue in detail in a future post; but suffice it to say that, based upon the Scriptures (i.e. see Romans 1), I do not believe the two can co-exist. For now, take a look at this revealing article on the subject.

3) Rob Bell's recent attack on the existence of a place of torment (hell) has caused a lot of outrage in the Christian community. Too many Christian leaders today seem to center on the "God of love" aspect to God, completely avoiding the "God of justice" side. (I will be writing a post on this in the near future.) The simple fact is that there is a hell, and it isn't a pretty picture for those who refuse to obey the God of the Bible. A while back, I wrote a post on this very subject in response to a comment I had received by someone who, like Bell, claimed that there is no hell; you can read my thoughts, based entirely on Scripture, here. (This article is actually two parts; I linked to part two-- I suggest you read part one before reading on, though it is possible to get my point by simply reading part two.)

4) Lastly, with the recent catastrophy in Japan, many are asking "Why did God allow this to happen?" Here is my take on why bad things happen to good people. I would also like to add that Jesus said that in the last days -- among the catastrophies to occur -- earthquakes would increase (Mattew 24:7), and "the sea and the waves roaring, men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth..." (Luke 21:25-26). Though not everything that Jesus predicted has happened yet, things are escalating at an alarming rate! So while we may not understand exactly why bad things are happening, we can be sure that God is in control -- He can use this situation (and any other) to bring people to Himself. In the end, whoever endures shall be saved; whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved -- and that's all that matters.

    So true, Miss! Unfortunately in many churches today "dilution" has become the drink of choice...

April Fools

Today is April Fool's Day. While I am not too enthralled with the idea of playing tricks on people, I wanted to share a little story with you all (no offense meant to those to whom it refers): An atheist complained to a Christian friend, "You Christians have your sacred holidays, such as Christmas and Easter. Jews celebrate their national holidays, such as Passover and Yom Kippur. But we atheists have no recognized national holidays. It's unfair discrimination." His friend replied, "Why don't you celebrate April first?" On a more serious note, I would like to remind you all that we are called to be "fools for Christ" (1 Corinthians 4:10). This does not mean that we are to act stupid in the name of Christ; rather, it means that we are to go about God's business -- even if it makes us look like fools in the process.
