Something Beautiful: Lessons From A Barn

Image
Today, I want to present this picture as I join Renee in her weekly meme, Something Beautiful ... Of course, as with all my pictures and posts, there is a lesson to be learned from this barn... Proverbs 3:7-10 "Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.Honor the LORD with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine." I am currently listening to the song "Amazing Love," the song popularized by the Newsboys. The line that struck me as I'm writing is this: "In all I do, I honor you." This passage in Proverbs tells us to honor the Lord; do we REALLY honor Him? How do we honor the Lord? By fearing Him. And how do we fear Him? We DEPART FROM EVIL . Obey the Lord, not your own feelings and desires; if you go your own way, you are being wise in your own eyes. To fear the...

WFW: How Great the Father's Love!

Image
In honor of Thanksgiving, my favorite "holiday," I'd like to say that I am EXTREMELY thankful for the underlying message that the whole Bible contains: that of the Father's great love for us, that we can be his children! That is the topic of today's WFW. Psalm 25:14 "The secret [lit. intimacy] of the LORD is with those who fear Him, And He will show them His covenant." Hebrews 8:10-12 "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more." Romans 11:26-36 "And so all Israel will be saved, as it is w...

WFW: The Fear of the Lord is Clean

Image
Psalm 19:9 "The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether." If you remember, we had " theorized " that if the fear of the Lord is clean, it follows that if we fear the Lord, we are clean. I'd like to start this week by looking at Psalm 51; it is an excellent chapter and it brings out many of the points that I will be talking about today. For a quick background, David had just commited adultery. On his face in repentance to God, he said these words: Psalm 51-- "Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions. WASH ME thoroughly from my iniquity, And CLEANSE me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me. Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight-That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge. Behold, I was brough...

WFW: The Fear of the Lord is Happiness

Image
Today, I'm going to continue my study on the fear of the Lord. I'd like to refer back to this point: If you fear the Lord, you have wisdom and knowledge and are therefore happy. When I first included this point in the quiz , I didn't realize just how many Scriptures concur with this. Let's start with the Scripture which was the foundation for that point: Prov. 9:10 -- "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom , And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." Prov 1:7 -- "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; but fools despise wisdom and instruction." Isaiah 33:6 - "And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of your times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD." Isaiah 12:2, although it does not specifically mention the fear of the Lord, goes along with the above Scripture: "Behold, God is my SALVATION; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also i...
