In Defense of the Christian Faith

For today's Inspiring Story, I will try to keep it short and sweet. Although I think the story I will present is inspiring in and of itself, I wanted to share a few related things that will make it even more inspiring (well, it did for me, anyway). So here goes... Today, we focus on Irena Sendlerowa. She was a Polish woman who worked as a social worker for the Nazis during the 1900s, when Hitler was having his "reign." As social worker to the Warsaw Ghetto, she made it her job to rescue as many Jewish children as she could! She knew that if they remained there, they would all be killed by the Nazis. And rescue them, she did! Armed with a tool box and a trunk, she would smuggle children out of the prison; the smaller children were placed in a tool box, and the larger children were placed in the trunk. She managed to evade the Nazi guards detection by using her trusty dog as a cover; whenever a Nazi guard came near, her dog was trained to bark! This created some frustratio...

In honor of Thanksgiving, my favorite "holiday," I'd like to say that I am EXTREMELY thankful for the underlying message that the whole Bible contains: that of the Father's great love for us, that we can be his children! Well, for today's Inspiring Story, I'm taking a departure from my usual and traditional story of missionaries and people who are doing amazing things for God to post something a little different. Psalm 19:9 "The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether." If you remember, we had " theorized " that if the fear of the Lord is clean, it follows that if we fear the Lord, we are clean. I'd like to start this week by looking at Psalm 51; it is an excellent chapter and it brings out many of the points that I will be talking about today. I think too often, people (myself included) are too afraid to open the door and step out into the world of the unknown, because we are afraid of what might lie behind it; we are afraid of what we don't know. But the truth is, we can beat the fear; we have the power, the love, and the sound mind that only comes from God! We are overcomers! Now, for the quote... I hope it will inspire you as it did me. Today's Inspiring Story is short and light-hearted (to a certain extent), but there is still a good lesson to be learned, so I wanted to share it with you all. This story was related by Rod Parsley, pastor of World Harvest Church (founded by Lester Sumerall). I have related it in my own words for your reading pleasure... It was an "ordinary" day (if you can call a day in the life of Lester Sumerall "ordinary"). Lester Sumerall was in his room, when suddenly everything began to shake! Lester recognized the shaking as the presence of the devil, so he stood up on his bed and began to command him to leave in Jesus Name. Everything was shaking so violently, that his bed, which had been in the corner of the room, landed in the room's center! As Lester continued to command the demon to leave, the room became calm and the shaking stopped! Today, I'm going to continue my study on the fear of the Lord. I'd like to refer back to this point: If you fear the Lord, you have wisdom and knowledge and are therefore happy. When I first included this point in the quiz , I didn't realize just how many Scriptures concur with this. Let's start with the Scripture which was the foundation for that point: Prov. 9:10 -- "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom , And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." Prov 1:7 -- "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; but fools despise wisdom and instruction." Isaiah 33:6 - "And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of your times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD." Isaiah 12:2, although it does not specifically mention the fear of the Lord, goes along with the above Scripture: "Behold, God is my SALVATION; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also i...
