Year Four Is In the Books!!! {and October Baby DVD Giveaway}

Image
( Note: This giveaway is not CLOSED. Congrats to Ruth G. for winning! ) It's been four years since I started this blog. And while it has become more of a hobby than something that I keep up with regularly, I wanted to take a moment to mark off year four. This past year has been much more mild, since I haven't been postly regularly here; however, there have still been a few really neat highlights that I wanted to share with you all. Firstly, I am in the process of raising the level of reviews found here on the blog. Some of the highlights from last year include a review of the ebook True Reason , a book written in response to the secular Reason Rally which took place back in March. (You can view all posts on the Reason Rally -- which includes a guest post by Tom Gilson , a leader in the True Reason initiative -- here .) I also recently posted a review of the book Jesus + Nothing = Everything by Tullian Tchividjian. You can view all reviews done on this blog to date on the...

From the Youtube Description: Based upon the Gold Medallion award-winning best-seller, The Case for Christ documents Lee Strobel's journey from atheism to faith through his two-year investigation of the Bible and the life of Jesus Christ. Strobel, the former legal editor of the Chicago Tribune, draws upon his investigative skills to examine the historical accuracy of the Gospels, the personal claims of Jesus and His resurrection from the dead. Is there evidence to confirm that Jesus of Nazareth was, indeed, the son of God and the savior of the world? This remarkable film features interviews with 10 leading Biblical scholars from North America and England, cutting-edge apologetics, and a compelling original music score. You can watch the full version below... Enjoy! Hat Tip: The Poached Egg

Book Review: Jesus + Nothing = Everything

Image
I first heard about Tullian Tchividjian (pronounced "cha-vi-jin") a few year ago when I was introduced to the, then, new pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian church ; I had been watching their show "The Coral Ridge Hour" (now "Truth In Action Ministries") every Saturday night and I enjoyed hearing what founder Dr. D. James Kennedy had to say. I particularly enjoyed his take on Christian apologetics. When Dr. Kennedy passed away, I heard that there was a new pastor coming in, but that there was some schism in the church over his "newer" approach to things as he began to merge his church with Coral Ridge's. In the book "Jesus + Nothing = Everything," pastor Tullian takes you on his spiritual journey into the Word of God; the book is an exposé of the book of Colossians, the portion of the Bible that God used to set this pastor free from the bondage that threatened to keep him hostage during that troubling time in his life. The ma...

Happy Independence Day!

Image
Here are a few little tidbits to think on today as we celebrate this July 4th, Independence Day... 1) I think I post this quote every year for Independence Day, but it is so true and it really brings out the meaning behind our yearly celebrations on July 4th... “Why is it that, next to the birthday of the Savior of the world, your most joyous and most venerated festival returns on this day [the Fourth of July]? Is it not that, in the chain of human events, the birthday of the nation is indissolubly linked with the birthday of the Savior? That it forms a leading event in the progress of the Gospel dispensation? Is it not that the Declaration of Independence first organized the social compact on the foundation of the Redeemer's mission upon earth? That it laid the cornerstone of human government upon the first precepts of Christianity"? ~ John Adams, age of 69; Fourth of July speech at Newburyport, Massachusetts. 2) John Adams also stated, " The second ...

Resurrection Series Part 10: Conclusion

Image
Welcome to part 10 of the Resurrection series -- our final post based on the book The Case for the Resurrection of Jesus . You can find all proceding parts here . In this post, we will continue with a few more objections to the Resurrection before reaching the conclusion. I hope you have enjoyed this series! Christ is Risen: He is risen indeed! Though the Resurrection is not in dispute, many will try to downplay the witness of the disciples by comparing it to other religions. For example, Joseph Smith and eleven witnesses all claimed that they experienced supernatural appearances, so what is the difference between the supernatural experiences of Jesus and the twelve disciples? A close examination of this point will reveal that while Jesus’ disciples suffered for and died for their beliefs, six of the eleven witnesses to Moroni’s gold plates left the Mormon Church! But even if these witnesses had seen the golden plates, this does not mean that there is anything valid contained w...
